Since Google announced the release of WebM video format and open-sourced the VP8 codec, YouTube have been working hard on the codec conversion of it videos.
Recently at the Streaming Media West Conference, WebM Product Manager John Luther revealed that YouTube, the biggest video sharing website in the world, has transcoded 80% of its videos to WebM format.
This is a good news to both VP8 codec and WebM. Because of this, WebM format will get support from more people.
Currently the latest browsers such as Opera 10、Chrome 6+ and Firefox 4 natively support the playback of WebM format video. Safari and IE can also play WebM videos if third-party codecs are installed on the system.
